Unlike Other AI Chatbots, Anthropic Ensures Claude Remains Ad-Free
JAKARTA - Anthropic announced that its flagship chatbot, Claude, will remain an ad-free service. They believe that AI assistants are not the right place to present sponsored content.
Thus, the company again emphasized that all of Claude's answers would not be influenced by advertisers, or insert a third-party product that is not requested by its users.
"This is a choice with certain consequences, and we appreciate that other AI companies may reasonably reach different conclusions," Anthropic wrote in an announcement on its official website.
Anthropic highlights that an ad-based business model can create incentives that are at odds with Claude's core principle of always acting in the user's best interest.
They also give an example, where if a user complains of difficulty sleeping, an ad-free assistant will explore various possible causes neutrally. However, an ad-based system can be encouraged to direct the conversation to certain transaction opportunities.
"Users should not have to second-guess whether an AI is actually helping them or subtly steering the conversation in a direction that can be monetized," he explained.
In the absence of advertising, the AI company explained that it derives revenue through enterprise contracts and paid subscriptions, then reinvests that revenue to improve Claude's quality.
The company also said it wanted to expand access without selling users' attention or data to advertisers.
In fact, in the future, Anthropic opens the possibility of presenting a cheaper subscription package or regional price, but emphasizes that any changes will be communicated transparently.
Although it rejected the ad, Anthropic said Claude would still support interaction with commerce, including the concept of agentic commerce where AI can help users make purchases or reservations end-to-end.
"We will continue to build features that allow our users to find, compare, or buy products, connect with businesses, and more," he concluded.
