Minister of LH reminds local governments to consistently handle waste
JAKARTA - Minister of Environment (LH) Hanif Faisol Nurofiq reminded that according to the instructions of President Prabowo Subianto, all levels of government, both at the central and regional levels, are asked to be consistent in handling waste.
Minister of LH Hanif said that the actual action to handle emergency waste was carried out through the Indonesian Movement for Safe, Healthy, Clean, and Beautiful (ASRI) as a concrete step from the President's instructions to instruct the strengthening of consistency in environmental cleaning and sustainable waste management throughout Indonesia.
"Following up on the directions and orders of President Prabowo Subianto in the Indonesian National Movement ASRI, all levels of government from the center to the region are asked to consistently clean the environment and handle waste," said Minister Hanif as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, February 5.
He said this after leading more than 4,000 joint personnel to handle the waste conditions in South Tangerang, Banten, Wednesday (4/2).
He reminded that the management of waste management is under the authority of the regional head as regulated in Law Number 18 of 2008, so it requires the support of all parties.
"In addition to education and training, law enforcement must be strengthened, including sanctions against business units and residential areas that are capable of managing their own waste," explained Hanif.
"Firm steps are needed," he said, in response to the increasingly urgent challenge of urban waste management.
Specifically, he highlighted the waste generated in South Tangerang City currently reaching 1,029 tons per day, with 428 tons of which or around 41.54 percent are still not well managed.
Minister Hanif emphasized that this emergency waste condition cannot be left and demanded synergy without barriers between the central government, regions, and the private sector to achieve the target of 100 percent waste disposal by 2029.
The long-term strategy of KLH/BPLH focuses on strengthening waste management directly from the source and increasing infrastructure capacity in the region.
Through the Indonesian ASRI Movement, he said, the government not only wants to create a ceremonial agenda, but also build a culture of disciplined and clean regional governance.
Law enforcement and continuous supervision will be the main instruments to ensure that clean, orderly, and sustainable environmental targets for urban communities can be realized immediately.
