Xi Jinping-Putin Emphasize Commitment to Maintain Russia-China Relations

JAKARTA - Chinese President Xi Jinping held a virtual meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday (4/2) to reaffirm the commitment of both countries to keep bilateral relations on the right track.

As reported by ANTARA, in a written statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Xi said the two countries agreed to "strengthen practical cooperation, deepen strategic coordination, and carry out responsibilities as major countries" amid rising global tensions.

Xi stressed that China and Russia, as permanent members of the UN Security Council, are obliged to maintain a UN-centered international system, uphold international law, and maintain global strategic stability.

He also stated that bilateral economic and trade relations continued to show positive momentum, accompanied by strengthening cultural cooperation and multilateral coordination in various international forums.

Meanwhile, Putin said that Russian-Chinese relations would continue to develop with high vitality, supported by cooperation in the fields of trade, energy, science and technology, as well as agriculture.

He also said the reciprocal visa exemption had made it easier for people of the two countries to travel.

Putin stressed that Russia is ready to increase strategic coordination with China in multilateral forums such as the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and BRICS, in order to respond to the increasingly complex international dynamics.

The two leaders also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common interest.
