21 Bags of Money Pieces Found in Setu Waste Disposal Land

BEKASI - Police have secured a total of 21 sacks suspected of containing pieces of rupiah banknotes in a condition that have been shredded from a wild garbage disposal site (TPS) in Taman Rahayu Village, Setu District, Bekasi Regency.

"We take this step to prevent the misuse of this material by irresponsible parties," said Setu Police Chief AKP Usep Aramsyah in Cikarang, Wednesday, February 4.

He revealed that officers immediately moved to the location where the money was found after receiving a report from the public, which was strengthened by information on social media regarding the findings.

"We secured the location and evidence so that it would not become the consumption of irresponsible public. Currently we have secured about 21 sacks containing pieces of paper that are suspected to be pieces of Rp100 thousand, Rp50 thousand, and Rp2 thousand banknotes," he said.

Officers have examined four witnesses related to this case, including the land owner and three waste pickers. Coordination was also carried out with the Bekasi Regency Environment Service to investigate illegal waste management activities at the location.

"We have also coordinated with Bank Indonesia to ensure whether the counterfeit is real money, fake, or just another waste. Because, after all, money is a state document that must be secured," he said.

Bekasi Regency Environmental Service Spokesperson Dedi Kurniawan said his party had reviewed the location of the discovery. Based on the results of the review, the change was indeed real rupiah money. "Yes, it is a real money change," he said.

His party is coordinating with the Ministry of Environment and local police to trace the origin of the money as a follow-up to the findings.

Meanwhile, the owner of the land, Santo (65), admitted that he did not know that the material that was thrown in his land was pieces of money. The material was used to dig the land used as a waste sorting area.

"At first I really needed a job, sir. If I have to use my own money, I'm not strong. So when someone throws it away, just use it. I didn't know it was a piece of money," said Santo.

According to him, the disposal of the paper scraps was carried out by someone with the initials K-S using a dump truck since about the last six months. The disposal is not done every day, but only from time to time.

"After this case was widely discussed on social media, the disposal activity on my land has been stopped. Now it's closed, if there are things that are not allowed, we will close it," he said.
