Learning from the Experience of Being a Caregiver, Alika Islamadina is Now More Protective of Lifestyle

JAKARTA - The experience of witnessing her mother's struggle against kidney cancer in 2013 gave singer Alika Islamadina a deep life lesson. Now, Alika is more aware of the importance of a healthy lifestyle as an investment for the future, especially because of the history of cancer in her family.

"I really started a healthy lifestyle as early as possible. Reducing certain types of food, improving exercise habits, and maintaining a lifestyle - both for myself and for my child," said Alika at the Understanding Cancer Through Art exhibition in Jakarta, Wednesday (4/2) as reported by ANTARA.

Being a Caregiver at a Young Age

While still in college, Alika had to play the role of caregiver when her mother was diagnosed with kidney cancer. The biggest challenge at that time was not only physical, but also maintaining emotional regulation so that it could continue to be the main motivation for her mother.

Although he was afraid of losing, Alika chose to focus on the healing process. "The key is to provide full support and remain positive so that the mother is encouraged to undergo surgery and treatment," he recalled.

Awareness of Genetic Factors

Alika's awareness grew stronger after seeing the history of cancer declining in her family:

1990s & 2019: Alika's grandmother fights cancer.

2013: The mother was diagnosed with kidney cancer (fortunately it was detected early and has now recovered).

Seeing this pattern, Alika emphasized that early detection is a life saver. If you have a family history, regular health checks should not be delayed so that medical treatment can be carried out in time before the condition worsens.

Message for Others: Diagnose Yourself as Early as Possible

Now, as a mother, Alika looks at health with a wider perspective. For her, maintaining nutrient intake and regularly doing medical check-ups is a form of responsibility for herself and her beloved family.

"It is important to diagnose yourself as early as possible if there is a family history. Don't wait until it's serious, immediately find the right treatment if you feel there is a health problem," he concluded.
