Elon Musk Merges All "X", SpaceX Acquires xAI and X, Valuation Reaches IDR 20.976 Trillion

JAKARTA - SpaceX officially acquired xAI, Elon Musk's artificial intelligence company which also oversees the X social media platform (formerly Twitter). This acquisition unites all of Musk's "X" business lines into one giant entity with a valuation of around Rp20.976 trillion. This value is five times the 2026 Indonesian State Budget which is only Rp3.842 trillion.

This news was first reported by Bloomberg and then confirmed directly by SpaceX through an official statement on the company's website on Monday, February 2. With this transaction, SpaceX now oversees rocket technology, Starlink satellite internet, Grok artificial intelligence, to the X social media platform in one umbrella company.

"SpaceX has acquired xAI to form the most ambitious vertical innovation machine on (and off) Earth, with AI, rockets, space-based internet, direct communication to mobile devices, as well as the world's leading real-time information platform and freedom of speech," SpaceX wrote in its statement.

SpaceX calls this merger not just a continuation, but a major leap in the company's long-term mission.

"This is not just the next chapter, but the next book in the mission of SpaceX and xAI: evolving to create a sentient sun to understand the Universe and expand the light of consciousness to the stars," the statement continued.

The statement also refers to all products currently under the control of SpaceX, including the Starlink satellite internet service which has been operating in various countries.

Previously, xAI had previously acquired the X social media platform in March 2025 through a whole-share transaction. The deal valued X at around IDR 553.8 trillion, or around IDR 184.6 trillion lower than the price Musk paid when he bought Twitter in 2022.

Bloomberg notes that xAI along with the Grok chatbot costs around IDR 16.8 trillion per month in operating expenses. The acquisition by SpaceX is considered to allow the integration of financial and technological resources to reduce costs while accelerating product development.

In addition, the merger of SpaceX and xAI paves the way for Musk's ambition to build an AI data center in space. Last week, SpaceX applied to the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for permission to launch "one million satellites" as part of the project.

Elon Musk directly alluded to the plan in his statement regarding the acquisition. "In the long run, space-based AI is clearly the only way to do large-scale," Musk said.

"To harness even a millionth of the Sun's energy, it would take energy more than a million times greater than that used by the human civilization today. The only logical solution is to move this resource-intensive effort to locations with very large power and space. I mean, space is called 'space' because there is indeed a lot of space," he continued.

Musk closed the statement with a laughing-crying emoji, marking his signature style of communication amid his cosmic-scale technology ambitions.
