Summarecon Serpong and Summarecon Tangerang Ready to Connect the East-West MRT Corridor
JAKARTA - PT Summarecon Agung Tbk (Summarecon) through its business units in the West Jakarta area, namely Summarecon Serpong and Summarecon Tangerang, has agreed to explore the initial cooperation to develop the East-West MRT corridor in the Banten area (Kembangan - Balaraja) with PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda). These two integrated city areas from Summarecon will later be integrated with the East-West MRT corridor along with a number of other areas in the West Jakarta and Banten areas.
The cooperation between Summarecon and PT MRT Jakarta was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by the Director of Business Development of MRT Jakarta Farchad Mahfud together with the Executive Director of Summarecon Serpong Albert Luhur and the Executive Director of Summarecon Tangerang Hindarko Hasan at the DKI Jakarta Provincial City Hall, which was witnessed by the Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung, Banten Governor Andra Soni and President Director of Summarecon Adrianto P Adhi. The signing of the MoU was also carried out together with representatives of a number of other area developers.
This memorandum of understanding is the first step to identify the potential placement of MRT stations by considering the efficiency and effectiveness of interconnection and integration with the area through discussions, coordination, and data exchange with MRT Jakarta. This is commercially non-binding and serves as an initial basis for coordination before being incorporated into a subsequent agreement in accordance with applicable provisions.
For Summarecon, this exploration is a continuation of the company's long-term vision in building integrated cities that grow sustainably. In the course of more than five decades, Summarecon has consistently developed the area with a holistic approach, integrating residential, commercial, educational, hospitality, public spaces, and supporting infrastructure.
Summarecon believes that the development of an area is not merely the development of property, but a process of forming a living space that is able to develop across generations, through careful planning, integration of area functions, and connectivity that supports community activities.
Through this Memorandum of Understanding, the parties will conduct a joint study related to the development of the Kembangan-Balaraja corridor, covering aspects of interconnection, regional integration, technical, business, legal, and risk management. As a follow-up, a joint working group will be formed which will work for the next two years to prepare a joint work plan.
President Director of Summarecon, Adrianto P Adhi, explained that public transportation connectivity is one of the foundations in the development of a sustainable integrated city.
"Through this planning and exploration, Summarecon continues its commitment to support the government's efforts to strengthen the mass transportation system to encourage a shift from the use of private vehicles. The integration of the transportation network with this area is also an important part of creating efficient mobility, reducing congestion, and increasing productivity and quality of life of the community in the long term," he said in a written statement, Wednesday, February 4.
Summarecon through its business units in the western region of Jakarta, including Summarecon Serpong and Summarecon Tangerang, continues to develop the area with a gradual and measured approach, an approach that has become Summarecon's Vision in building the city.
Summarecon Serpong Executive Director, Albert Luhur, said that Summarecon Serpong is an area that has grown and lived, with a strong resident base and the dynamics of the city's activities that continue to grow.
"As an area equipped with residential, commercial, educational, hospitality, and space for creative economic activities, connectivity with the East-West MRT will strengthen the ecosystem of the area that has been formed, as well as encourage sustainable economic growth," said Albert.
Meanwhile, Summarecon Tangerang Executive Director, Hindarko Hasan added, Summarecon Tangerang as the latest area developed by Summarecon is planned with a long-term vision.
"Integration with the East-West MRT is an important foundation for Summarecon Tangerang to develop from the start as an area connected to mass transportation so that it will continue to grow, both residential and commercial functions, and most importantly continue to be sustainable now and in the future," he explained.
The cooperation between MRT and Summarecon is a form of private sector contribution in supporting the government's agenda which has a common vision in increasing interconnectivity between regions.
The President Director of PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) Tuhiyat, added that his party was aware that realizing the acceleration of MRT Jakarta interconnection requires support from various parties, both in terms of funding and other resources.
"Therefore, MRT Jakarta fully understands that working together with various parties, including private developers who have the same vision in providing the best services and meeting the needs of the community, must be done. We also appreciate the private developer who continues to support the efforts of the presence of a modern public transportation system needed by the community," he explained.
