Kremlin Reveals Putin-Xi Jinping Closed Video Call Ahead of Chinese New Year 2026

JAKARTA - Russian President Vladimir Putin conducted a communication via a closed video call alias video call with Chinese President Xi Jinping

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Putin and Xi had a confidential discussion on various global issues and the bilateral relationship between the two countries.

"The call for a video conference with Chinese President Xi Jinping continues at this time," he said, quoted by Tass, Wednesday, February 4.

Previously, the Kremlin had released the initial footage of a video call between Putin and Xi that was open to the media.

Peskov said that communication through video calls has been carried out by the two heads of state since 2020.

"Leaders value and maintain this tradition and always hold video calls before the Chinese New Year," he said.

Peskov emphasized that an advanced strategic partnership with China is a top priority for Russia. "They are developing stably in a broad, effective, and successful format. And we can see that both sides have the political will to continue to develop cooperation," he said.

After this phone call, Peskov said Putin was scheduled to hold a regular working meeting today as well.
