Danantara Steel Hilirisasi Hulu, Groundbreaking Dijadwalkan Maret 2026
JAKARTA - Danantara Indonesia is starting to accelerate the downstream agenda in 2026 through the development of the steel industry upstream. The strategic project is targeted to enter the groundbreaking phase next month as part of strengthening the foundation of the national industry.
Danantara Dony Oskaria's Chief Operating Officer (COO) said that the development of the upstream steel industry is one of the main focuses of Danantara's downstream this year. This step is projected to increase the national steel production capacity to around 3 million tons per year.
"One of the downstream projects carried out by Danantara this year is the development of upstream rather than our steel industry, which we will soon groundbreaking in the next month," said Dony in a working meeting with Commission VI of the DPR RI in Jakarta, Wednesday, February 4.
According to Dony, the construction of steel facilities on the upstream side is a strategic step to strengthen the structure of the national industry. However, the success of the project requires the policy of the government to be on the side so that the industry being developed can grow and be protected sustainably.
"This must certainly have a bias from the government to protect the industries that we are developing," he said.
Dony said that strengthening the capacity of domestic steel production is inseparable from the national industrialization agenda. As various strategic industrial sectors develop, domestic steel needs must be supported by national production, not continue to depend on imports.
"This is a strategic industry for the future. Our steel needs today are still dominated by imported steel," said Dony.
Therefore, Danantara encourages concrete support for the national steel industry so that it can compete and become the backbone of downstream industries in the country. Without adequate policy protection, this strategic industry is considered difficult to develop optimally.
"We hope that there will be a bias to advance our steel industries, which in the future can certainly become a supply for downstream industries," he said.
