X France Branch Office Seized, Elon Musk Says There is Political Game

JAKARTA - The Paris prosecutor's cyber crime unit raided X's branch office in France. This was done because X was suspected of illegally taking data and being involved in the possession of child pornography content.

In addition to searching his office, the prosecutor's office has also issued official summons to Elon Musk and Linda Yaccarino, the former CEO of X. Both are scheduled to appear at the trial, which will be held in April.

Both Musk and Yaccarino were asked to provide testimony in person at the hearing. In response to the raid, Musk made a post on X that strongly criticized the authorities.

He said that the search of his office was part of a political attack. X, through the official account of Global Government Affairs on X, has also explained the problem of the search. X insists that they have not committed any wrongdoing.

"French judicial authorities raided X's Paris office today in connection with a politicized criminal investigation related to alleged manipulation of algorithms and alleged fraudulent data extraction. We are disappointed by this development, but we are not surprised," X wrote on Wednesday, February 4.

X said that this search was an act of abuse carried out to achieve illegitimate politics. The company also revealed that the Paris Prosecutor's Office was trying to suppress X's senior management in the US.

"The prosecutor's office has ignored the procedural mechanisms that have been established to obtain evidence in accordance with," X explained. "The charges underlying today's raid are unfounded and X categorically denies having committed any wrongdoing."

Meanwhile, Yaccarino, who no longer works at the company, defended X by accusing French prosecutors of political revenge against US citizens. He emphasized that the accusations made were unfounded lies.

"This is another egregious example of the EU's other proxy campaign to pressure Elon Musk and X," Yaccarino said. "To be clear: they are lying. While I am no longer at X, I support X's mission. More than ever."

This major investigation actually began in January 2025 with an initial focus on the content recommendation algorithm on the platform. However, the scope of the investigation was expanded in July 2025 to comb through potential violations of the law by the Grok AI chatbot.

Currently, French prosecutors are investigating whether X has violated laws related to the distribution of illegal images and the fraudulent collection of data by organized groups. The results of the search will be evidence for the continuation of legal proceedings in court.
