JAKARTA - Indonesian women's tennis player Janice Tjen managed to secure a ticket to the quarterfinal of the Abu Dhabi Open 2026 women's doubles event with her partner from the Philippines, Alexandra Eala.
Janice/Eala qualified after stopping the Canadian-French pair, Leylah Fernandez/Kristina Mladenovic, in a super tie-break match with a final score of 7-5, 3-6, and 10-6 at the International Tennis Centre, Zayed Sports City, Abu Dhabi, on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, WIB night.
"We just won our first match and this is the first time we've played together," Janice said in an official WTA Instagram post.
The clash between the two pairs lasted for one hour and 33 minutes. Janice/Eala managed to grab the first set by converting two of four break point opportunities in the tight match.
Then in the second set, Janice/Eala had trouble containing the performance of Fernandez/Mladenovic who had a better ball return. A jomplang score also occurred.
In the super tie-break set, Janice/Eala benefited from three double faults by the opponent's pair. They then took advantage of that to take the lead and continue their journey to the last eight.
Janice/Eala will wait for the winner of the first round of the match between the Ukrainian siblings, Nadiia Kichenok/Lyudmyla Kichenok, against the Chinese and Spanish second seeds, Zhang Shuai/Cristina Bucsa.
