Iran prepares time and place for negotiations with the US
JAKARTA - The Iranian Foreign Ministry said preparations were being made to hold talks with the United States in the next few days, with consultations still underway to finalize the location of the talks.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei told the official IRNA news agency that the plan for the talks was drawn up on the orders of President Masoud Pezeshkian.
"Planning has been carried out to hold negotiations in the next few days, and consultations are underway to determine the location, which will be announced after it is decided," Baghaei said, quoted by ANTARA from Anadolu, Wednesday, February 4.
He appreciated the friendly countries, which, according to him, showed concern and good faith in helping to pave the way for the diplomatic process.
Baghaei stressed that the time and place of negotiations should not be the subject of media speculation, while emphasizing that a number of countries in the region had offered to host.
"In principle, the location and time of negotiations are not complicated issues and should not be used as a media game tool," he said.
He added that Turkiye, Oman, and several other countries in the region have expressed their readiness to facilitate negotiations, which Iran considers an important step.
