Rupiah has the potential to weaken in the midst of investors' wait-and-see attitude.
JAKARTA - The rupiah exchange rate on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 is expected to weaken against the US dollar.
Citing Bloomberg on Tuesday, February 3, the spot rupiah exchange rate closed up 0.26 percent to Rp16,754 per US dollar.
Meanwhile, the Jakarta Interbank Spot Dollar Rate (Jisdor) exchange rate of the Bank Indonesia (BI) closed up 0.14 percent to a price level of Rp16,777 per US dollar.
Doo Financial Futures analyst Lukman Leong said the rupiah is expected to move consolidating with limited potential for weakening against the US dollar.
"The rupiah is expected to consolidate with limited potential to weaken against the US dollar," he told VOI, Wednesday, February 4.
In addition, Lukman said investors tend to be sideline while anticipating the release of a number of important economic data in the United States in the next few days, as well as Indonesia's GDP data for the fourth quarter which will be released tomorrow.
"Investors tend to sideline in anticipation of a series of important US economic data in the next few days and Indonesia's GDP data for the fourth quarter tomorrow," he said.
Meanwhile, Lukman said domestic sentiment had not fully recovered, and sentiment in the Asian region was expected to tend to risk-off today along with the weakening of Wall Street.
"As for domestic sentiment, it is still not fully recovered, especially in Asia, which is expected to be risk off today following Wall Street," he explained.
Lukman estimates that the movement of the rupiah on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 will be in the range of Rp. 16,700-Rp. 16,850 per US dollar.
