OpenAI Hires Former Anthropic Employee as Head of Preparedness

JAKARTA - OpenAI has officially appointed Dylan Scand as the new Head of OpenAI Preparedness, who will be responsible for preparing and mitigating the risks of developing artificial intelligence (AI) models.

In an announcement on his personal X account @sama, Altman stated that the company is currently developing very advanced AI technology, so it needs a corresponding security system.

"Everything will move very quickly and we will soon work with very sophisticated models. This will require commensurate security to ensure that we can continue to provide extraordinary benefits," said Altman.

He explained that Dylan Scand will lead OpenAI's efforts to anticipate and mitigate serious risks that may arise from the development and application of advanced AI models.

In fact, the CEO of OpenAI assessed that Scand was the best candidate he had ever met for the responsibility.

"He certainly has a tough task, but I'll sleep better tonight. I look forward to working closely with him to make the changes we need across our company," he concluded.

Altman also said he would work very closely with Scand to drive the changes needed across the organization.

Scand is a former employee at Anthropic in the same position. By working at a new company, he expressed his readiness at OpenAI.

"AI is advancing rapidly. The potential benefits are enormous - so are the risks, namely extreme and even irreversible damage. There is still much work to be done, and not much can be done," Scand wrote in a separate post.
