PBNU Ketum Message to Prabowo Not to Be Carried Away by the Flow to Harm the Palestinians

JAKARTA - The General Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama General Board (PBNU) Yahya Cholil Staquf advised President Prabowo Subianto that every step and policy taken by Indonesia should not be carried away by the current, which could actually harm the Palestinian people.

The message was conveyed after attending a meeting between President Prabowo and the leadership of Islamic community organizations and a number of kiai at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Tuesday. The meeting was attended by the leadership of 16 Islamic organizations as well as pesantren figures from various regions.

"We understand everything that was explained by the President by leaving a message not to be easily carried away by the current that may later actually harm the Palestinians, harm the Palestinian people," said Gus Yahya, his nickname at the Presidential Palace complex, Jakarta, Tuesday, February 3, reported by ANTARA.

During the meeting, Gus Yahya said the invited guests received explanations from President Prabowo regarding various efforts and struggles of Indonesia in helping Palestine.

President Prabowo, he said, explained in detail the policy considerations that are realistic according to the current conditions and opportunities, so that Indonesia can contribute more concretely and have a real impact on Palestine.

Including Indonesia's involvement in the Board of Peace initiative initiated by the United States, accompanied by joint consolidation of Islamic countries and Middle Eastern countries that also participate in the initiative.

The consolidation is intended to ensure that the policies taken are oriented towards defending the Palestinians.

"So the things that will be done in the council will be a consolidated step among the countries that are basically and motivate them to participate in the council to defend and help Palestine," he said.

President Prabowo, he said, emphasized that all Indonesian steps would be carried out with vigilance and adhere to the principle of protecting, defending, and assisting the Palestinian people, especially in the Gaza Strip.

"The president said everything would be done with vigilance, with the principle that absolutely cannot be negotiated to protect, defend, and help the Palestinian people, especially in Gaza, but also later will be developed in broader efforts to the Palestinian people in the West Bank," he said.
