PBNU Values President's Steps on Palestine as Realistic, Board of Peace as Strategic Path
JAKARTA - The direction of the attitude of Islamic organizations towards the government's steps in the Palestinian issue narrowed after the direct exposure of the President. The General Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama General Board, Yahya Cholil Staquf, assessed that the President's policy choice was realistic, not just moral rhetoric.
At the value level, said Gus Yahya, there is no difference. Rejecting colonization and defending Palestinian independence is a constitutional mandate and the moral attitude of the nation. The crucial point is at the policy level: how Indonesia's steps have a real impact, not just a symbolic position.
"We received an extensive explanation from the President regarding realistic considerations and opportunities for Indonesia to be more concrete and progressive in helping Palestine," said Gus Yahya after meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta, Tuesday, February 3.
Yahya continued that Indonesia's involvement in the Board of Peace (BoP) was understood as a strategic channel accompanied by the consolidation of Islamic and Middle Eastern countries so that the policy direction in the forum would remain based on advocacy for Palestine. The message conveyed is clear. Don't let the diplomatic steps be dragged by global interests that actually harm the Palestinian people.
The President also emphasized the principle that cannot be negotiated, namely the protection of Gaza civilians, including the plan for the participation of peacekeepers.
Regarding the dues, Gus Yahya said it was part of the mobilization of large financing for the reconstruction of Gaza - a decision that requires political commitment as well as fiscal responsibility.
At the forum, said Yahya, participants also highlighted the importance of vigilance so that the humanitarian agenda does not turn into a tug-of-war arena for global interests.
"All who attended understand the reality of this policy and can accept this strategic step," he said.
