The Government Prepares 2,460 Clean-up Places for Social Work Offenders from Schools to Child Care Centers

JAKARTA - The Minister of Immigration and Corrections (Imipas) Agus Andrianto said his party had provided 2,460 locations for cleaning activities for perpetrators of crimes who were sentenced to social work.

Social work convicts themselves are one of the legal actions applied to minor criminal offenders, in accordance with the new Criminal Code.

Agus said that the effort to provide locations was carried out to ensure that the implementation of the new Criminal Code ran optimally among the community.

In his presentation to the people's representatives, Agus said his party provided 2,460 locations ranging from schools, government offices, places of worship, city parks, orphanages, nursing homes, and boarding schools.

"As a form of initial readiness for the implementation of social work, 1,174 cooperation agreements have been prepared with various cross-sectoral partners. Cooperation agreements between correctional institutions (bapas) and social criminal locations," said Agus as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, February 3.

Agus continued, the cooperation agreement involves 1,174 partners consisting of 517 local governments, 329 government agencies, 206 social homes, and 122 social foundations.

Not only that, Agus said his party had also coordinated with the Supreme Court to impose a social work sentence for minor offenders. This is done so that both the Directorate General of Imipas and the Supreme Court are in sync in implementing the new Criminal Code.

With these efforts, Agus believes that the implementation of the new Criminal Code to the community can run optimally.
