The Attorney General's Office is preparing the option of deportation or extradition of Riza Chalid Usai Red Notice Issued
JAKARTA - The Head of the Legal Information Center of the Attorney General's Office (Kejagung), Anang Supriatna, stated that the Attorney General's Office is ready to follow up on the issuance of a red notice against oil trader Mohammad Riza Chalid alias Riza Chalid by preparing two legal options, namely deportation or extradition. This step will be taken depending on the response and policy of the country where the fugitive is located.
Anang said that although the red notice had been issued by Interpol, the process of repatriating the fugitive could not be carried out quickly and required cross-country cooperation.
"This red notice has been submitted since last year and has just been approved now. For deportation and extradition, it also requires a process and coordination between countries," said Anang, when met at the Attorney General's Office, Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
Anang said that a red notice is not an automatic arrest warrant that must be carried out by all Interpol member countries. According to Anang, its implementation depends very much on the good faith and policies of each country based on the principles of cooperation and reciprocity.
"The nature of the red notice is voluntary. Interpol member countries do not have absolute obligations, so intensive coordination and communication are needed," he said.
Anang revealed that the Attorney General's Office had received an official notification from the National Central Bureau (NCB) of the Indonesian Interpol regarding the approval of the red notice request on February 2, 2026. The issuance of this red notice, he said, was the result of a long process involving investigators from the Attorney General's Office, the NCB of the Indonesian Interpol, and the Interpol headquarters in Lyon, France.
According to him, the red notice application was submitted after Riza Chalid several times did not meet the call of investigators, both when he was a witness and after he was named a suspect. After being included in the wanted list (DPO), the Attorney General's Office then submitted a red notice application around July 2025.
"Since September 2025 we have carried out intensive coordination, including exposure to joint cases with NCB and Interpol central. In fact, at an international meeting in Morocco in November 2025, we again held a bilateral meeting to explain this case," he said.
In various forums, Anang emphasized that the case that ensnared Riza Chalid was a suspected criminal act of corruption and had no political content. This is important to convince Interpol that this red notice request is purely law enforcement. His party continues to coordinate with the NCB Interpol Indonesia, the Directorate General of Immigration, and the authorities of the countries concerned.
"We are preparing all the necessary legal steps, both through the deportation mechanism and extradition," he concluded.
