Jokowi Targets In May, Covid-19 Spread Curve To Decrease

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is targeting, at the end of May, the curve for the spread of the corona virus will fall. That way, he orders all ranks to focus and work hard to handle this case in any way.

"Our target in May must really be achieved, according to the target we gave, that the curve must have dropped. Entering a moderate position in June and in July must enter into a light position in any way," said Jokowi when opening the meeting. limited broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat YouTube account, Wednesday, April 6.

Jokowi believes that if all people carry out health protocols, the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia will end soon.

In addition, the former governor of DKI Jakarta said that in handling the outbreak, all levels of government must adhere to the principle of good governance by transparency of data.

He also asked his entire staff to move quickly and precisely to achieve the goal of providing safety for all people in the health, social and economic fields.

"To achieve this goal, all of us governments must move quickly. Because the situation is truly extraordinary and requires speed and accuracy," he said.

Derating Curves Is Hard to Achieve Without Hard Work

However, Jokowi and his ranks' targets are considered difficult to achieve. This is because the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test to map the spread of the virus is not optimal. In addition, Indonesia has not entered the peak phase of the COVID-19 pandemic. For that, the government needs to work hard to achieve this.

"Indonesia has not entered the peak phase of its pandemic curve and each island will be different," said Griffith University Epidemiologist Dicky Budiman when contacted by VOI.

Moreover, the peak of the Jakarta curve is estimated to be in June. "Meanwhile, other regions in Java will vary," he said.

However, what Jokowi and his ranks are targeting is natural. This is so that the government has a measurable direction in handling this case.

"But when it comes to the probability of success, it is unlikely that it will succeed because what is happening now was a month ago," he explained.

"This means that if you want to mark the curve, you need to work hard at least two weeks to a month before the effect will be seen," concluded Dicky.
