MedcoEnergi Reduces Methane Emissions by Implementing Nitrogen Gas Blanketing in the Corridor Block

JAKARTA - PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk (MedcoEnergi) through its subsidiary Medco E&P Grissik Ltd. strengthens real steps to reduce emissions through the implementation of nitrogen gas blanketing on storage tanks of oil and gas facilities in Suban, Corridor Block, South Sumatra. This initiative reflects the Company's commitment to carry out operations that are more efficient, responsible, and in line with the global climate agenda.

This system has the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by around 1,100 tCO₂e/year, most of which comes from methane. These results show that emission reductions and operational efficiency improvements can go hand in hand.

This step is also in line with MedcoEnergi's participation in the Oil & Gas Methane Partnership (OGMP) 2.0, a global standard that encourages transparency and accuracy in measuring and reporting methane emissions. Through this participation, MedcoEnergi places itself on par with other global energy companies, which prioritize data accountability and strong emissions governance.

"Our commitment does not stop at emission reduction, but also on how emissions are measured, managed, and reported credibly," said MedcoEnergi's Director & Chief Operating Officer, Ronald Gunawan.

"Reducing methane emissions is not just about compliance or technology, but about how we run more responsible and sustainable operations," added Ronald. "This shows that initiatives in the field can have a real impact on the environment while strengthening energy resilience," he added.

MedcoEnergi managed to surpass the 2025 emission reduction target and remain on track to achieve the 2030 interim target. MedcoEnergi will continue to expand the application of energy efficiency and low-emission technologies as part of the aspiration to achieve Net Zero Emission Coverage 1 and 2 by 2050 and Coverage 3 by 2060.
