Engine Explosion Causes Ship Fire in Paotere Port, 9 People Evacuated
MAKASSAR - The Makassar City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) managed to evacuate nine victims in a ship fire incident in the Paotere Port area, Ujung Tanah District, Makassar on Tuesday, February 3 at around 05.00 WITA.
BPBD Makassar released based on information in the field, the incident began when the fish dismantling activity took place, suddenly there was a sound of an explosion from the ship's engine which then triggered the fire.
"Until now, the exact cause of the explosion is still being investigated by the authorities," said the Head of the Makassar BPBD, Fadli Tahir, quoted by Antara, Tuesday morning.
Fadli said his party had coordinated with related elements in the process of handling the incident and data collection of victims at the location.
As a result of this incident, nine victims, all of whom were male, suffered minor to serious injuries. Eight of them suffered serious injuries and one other minor injuries.
All the victims have been evacuated and received medical treatment at the Jala Ammari Kodamar VI Makassar Navy Hospital.
The Makassar City BPBD appealed to all people, especially those who carry out activities in the port area, to increase vigilance and pay attention to aspects of work safety, especially related to the condition of engines and flammable materials.
