Bogor City DPRD Values Damkar Rescue Armada Not Ideal for Handling Emergencies

BOGOR - Commission IV of the Bogor City DPRD emphasized the urgency of strengthening the rescue fleet or rescue vehicles owned by the Fire Department (Damkar) as a step to anticipate the increase in fire incidents and emergency conditions in Bogor City.

Member of Commission IV of the Bogor City DPRD, Banu Lesmana Bagaskara, stated that the need for rescue vehicles is now a top priority in discussing the 2026 budget, because the role of Damkar is no longer limited to fire extinguishing, but also handling various emergency situations.

"We see that the most urgent need at this time is the addition of rescue cars. This fleet is very important to accelerate the handling of fire incidents and the rescue of citizens in emergency conditions," said Banu, Monday, February 2.

He revealed that currently the Bogor City Damkar only has two rescue vehicles, but one of them is no longer usable. This condition is considered not proportional to the area and the high potential for emergency incidents.

"Of the two units that exist, one is not optimal. This means that we practically rely on only one car. This is clearly risky if several events occur simultaneously," he explained.

According to Banu, ideally Damkar has at least five rescue vehicles so that it can reach all sub-districts quickly. For this reason, procurement will be carried out gradually starting in 2026.

"Next year we encourage the addition of one unit first, then continue again in the following year until the minimum needs are met. This is about the safety of residents, so it can't be delayed," he said.

He added that the presence of a rescue car is very crucial in a fire situation because it not only carries personnel, but also evacuation equipment, first aid, and rescue of trapped victims.

"Often when there are fires, there are victims who must be evacuated quickly. Without adequate rescue vehicles, handling can be delayed. We want the Damkar response to remain fast and maximum," he said.

However, Banu still appreciates the performance of the Bogor City Damkar which recorded an average response time of 9.6 minutes, surpassing the national standard.

"In terms of performance, it has been very good. We just need to strengthen the support for facilities and infrastructure so that services to the community are more optimal," he concluded.
