Two Australian Nationals Charged with 18 Years in Prison for Murder in Bali
DENPASAR - The Public Prosecutor of the Badung District Attorney's Office, Bali, has demanded two Australian foreign nationals who were convicted of premeditated murder who killed an Australian citizen in Badung, Bali, for 18 years in prison.
"To demand and impose a sentence on defendant 1 Mevlut Coskun and defendant II Paea-i-Middlemore Tupou with a sentence of 18 years in prison each," said the Public Prosecutor (JPU) in front of the Chief Judge of the Denpasar District Court in the Cakra Room, where the trial took place. the prosecution at the Denpasar District Court, Bali, Monday, February 2 reported by ANTARA.
The JPU stated that the two defendants, Mevlut Coskun (22) and Paea-i-Middlemore Tupou (26), were proven to be legally and convincingly guilty of premeditated murder as provided for and threatened with criminal penalties in violation of Article 459 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code jo Article 20 letter c of Law No. 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code.
In addition, they were found to have violated Article 459 of Law No. 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code jo Article 17 paragraph (1) of Law No. 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code jo Article 20 letter c of Law No. 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code; and THIRD Article 306 of Law No. 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code jo Article 20 letter c of Law No. 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code as stated in the cumulative indictment of the Public Prosecutor (JPU) from the Badung District Attorney's Office.
Meanwhile, in a separate case, the defendant Darcy Francesco Jenson (27) was sentenced to 17 years in prison in the same case.
In the prosecutor's demand letter, the aggravating circumstances in the trial, the defendants caused Zivan Radmanovic to die and the victim witness Sanar Ghanim to be injured.
The defendants also disturbed the security and order of the people of Bali.
Meanwhile, the mitigating circumstances, the defendants admitted that their actions had committed a criminal act and were straightforward in the trial, the defendant also regretted his actions.
Not only that, the prosecutor asked the defendants to set the period of arrest and detention to be reduced entirely from the sentence imposed.
From the incident, a number of evidence was secured, one of which was three projectiles, 19 bullet casings, 62 projectile fragments, one hammer type hammer 85 centimeters long orange color.
After listening to the demands, the defendants were silent and bowed to hear the demands of the Badung District Attorney's Office.
After discussing with their lawyers, the defendants will submit their right of reply in writing at the next trial on Monday, February 9, 2026.
"The trial will continue next week, yes, the right to answer can be delivered in the next trial," said the judge.
Mevlut Coskun asked for or submitted an answer before the trial was closed.
Mevlut, who was sitting on the left side during the trial, said that the judge could re-examine the evidence presented and give the fairest punishment.
Previously, the case of a brutal shooting allegedly carried out by Australian gangsters shook the public in the Banjar Sedahan area, Munggu Village, Mengwi District, Badung Regency, Bali, early Saturday (14/6).
In the incident, one person died on behalf of Zivan Radmanovic and one victim was injured, namely Sanar Ghanim.
The shooting was witnessed by GJ, the wife of the victim ZR, and Daniela, the wife of Sanar.
ZR was shot inside the toilet of the bathroom, while Sanar was shot inside the room.
