Hundreds of Firecrackers Are Arrested by the Police from Six Traders in East Jakarta
East Jakarta Metro Police confiscated hundreds of firecrackers that could potentially trigger fights and prosecuted a number of firecracker traders in the Jaya 2026 Public Disease Operation (Pekat).
"In the 2026 Pekat Jaya Operation, we also target goods that we indicate as part of the trigger or tool used for fights, such as firecrackers," said East Jakarta Metro Police Chief AKBP Achmad Akbar at a press conference at the East Jakarta Metro Police, Monday.
Akbar said that his party continued to intensify the treatment of various forms of community diseases through the implementation of Operation Pekat Jaya 2026.
The enforcement, which lasted for 15 days, from January 28 to February 11, 2026, was carried out as part of the police's repressive measures to maintain public order and security.
"In addition to prosecuting the perpetrators of fights, we are also focusing on the circulation of firecrackers, liquor, and drugs that are often used in street violence," said Akbar.
From the results of the action, the police have secured at least six sellers of firecrackers. All evidence was then confiscated in accordance with applicable laws.
"For firecrackers, we have taken action against at least six sellers. Then we make efforts to confiscate in accordance with the existing legal norms together with Satpol PP," he said.
During the crackdown, officers confiscated 498 firecrackers of various types and sizes.
In addition, the police and joint personnel also secured as many as 100 ball matches which were suspected to be used as supporting materials for making or lighting firecrackers.
"We confiscated 498 firecrackers. We can see various shapes or models. Then there are also 100 ball lighters that we suspect can also be used for firecrackers," said Akbar.
Regarding the origin of the firecrackers, Akbar emphasized that the current enforcement was still focused on traders.
However, the police have not ruled out the possibility of tracing further to the distribution channels and manufacturers of illegal firecrackers.
"The first thing about firecrackers, of course, the process we are going through is a collaboration between us and Satpol PP. There are legal provisions that regulate the circulation or sale," said Akbar.
According to Akbar, handling the petasan case involves the division of authority between the police and Satpol PP. Each step of enforcement is carried out in accordance with the main duties and functions (tupoksi) and the rules of each agency.
"Where is the Satpol PP domain and where is the police authority, we will definitely follow up. We will also certainly trace how the distribution and production stages of this firecracker occur," he said.
Currently, the deepening process is still being carried out by investigators from the East Jakarta Metro Police together with Satpol PP to uncover the illegal petasan distribution network.
"This is still being investigated, both by the police investigators and friends from the Satpol PP," said Akbar.
