Kremlin: Russia ready to try to de-escalate in Iran

JAKARTA - Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Russia remains ready to help defuse the situation in Iran.

"Russia continues to make efforts, continues to maintain contacts with all interested parties and, as far as possible, remains ready to contribute to easing tensions in Iran," Peskov told reporters, quoted by Sputnik, Monday, February 2.

Peskov said Russia was also offering excess enriched uranium export services from Iran as a possible option, adding that it could remove barriers for a number of countries.

In January, US President Donald Trump said a "big armada" was heading to Iran, adding he hoped Tehran would agree to negotiate and sign a "fair and equitable" deal that included a total halt to nuclear weapons.

Trump warned that if an agreement is not reached on Iran's nuclear program, future US attacks on the country will be "much worse" than previous attacks.
