ODGJ Suspended in Ponorogo, Police Coordinated with Dinsos

Ponorogo - The Ponorogo Police in coordination with the Social Service are handling two people with mental disorders (ODGJ) who are still being held by their families in Sendang Village, Jambon District, Ponorogo Regency, East Java.

Head of the Community Development Unit (Kasat Binmas) of the Ponorogo Police, AKP Agus Syaiful Bahri, said that his party followed up on community reports regarding the existence of ODGJ who were smuggled by conducting field data collection and cross-agency coordination.

"We have coordinated with the Ponorogo Regency Social Service, and today it was also followed up by the East Java Provincial Social Service which went directly to the location," said Agus after visiting one of the ODGJ in Sendang Village, Jambon District, as reported by ANTARA, Monday, February 2.

He explained that based on the results of the temporary data collection, there were two ODGJ in Sendang Village who were imprisoned by their families for security reasons because the person concerned often rampaged and was considered to be a danger to the surrounding environment.

According to Agus, the police encourage that the handling be carried out according to procedures through a humanitarian approach and mental health services, so that the practice of imprisonment does not continue.

"The next step is to find the right treatment solution through the relevant agencies. They need special attention and proper medical treatment," he said.

Meanwhile, the family said that the practice of imprisonment was carried out as a last resort after undergoing various treatments, ranging from first-level health services to treatment in mental hospitals, but the condition of the ODGJ relapsed after returning home.

However, Agus emphasized that the local government together with related institutions is committed to finding further handling steps so that the ODGJ concerned can receive more humane and safe treatment, both for patients and the surrounding environment.

"We hope that through this coordination, the best solution can be found, so that they can get the best health and social services," said Agus.
