KAI's Non-Coal Cargo Transportation Reaches 983,036 Tons in January 2026
JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or recorded a positive performance in freight in January 2026 with a volume of 983,036 tons of non-coal goods, confirming the role of the railway as the backbone of reliable and scheduled national logistics distribution.
KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba said this achievement reflects the level of business confidence in rail-based freight services.
According to Anne, the train is considered capable of providing certainty of travel time, large carrying capacity, and measurable operational patterns, making it a competitive logistics option for various industrial sectors.
"KAI freight consistently provides certainty and efficiency for business actors. This is reflected in the volume of non-coal freight which has been maintained at the beginning of the year," Anne said in an official statement, Monday, February 2.
The commodities transported by KAI include cement, containerized goods, fuel oil (BBM), plantation products, to retail goods. The diversity of the cargo shows the flexibility of KAI's services in responding to cross-sector distribution needs, ranging from basic industries and energy, to meeting the needs of public consumption.
Anne explained that cement and plantation products contribute significantly to the smooth supply of construction materials and regional flagship commodities.
Meanwhile, container and retail services play a role in maintaining the continuity of the distribution of consumer goods, especially in the main logistics corridors that connect production centers and markets.
In terms of energy, KAI's fuel transportation also supports national supply resilience through a scheduled and controlled delivery pattern. The train mode allows the transportation of fuel in large volumes with a stable level of efficiency, thus helping to maintain energy availability for the transportation, industrial, and household sectors.
In addition, Anne continued, the performance of KAI's freight transport also contributed to reducing the burden of highway traffic.
"The shift in distribution to the rail line is considered capable of reducing land transport density, improving transportation safety, and supporting overall logistics cost efficiency at the national level," he said.
Anne added, KAI continues to strengthen freight transportation services through the optimization of facilities and infrastructure, as well as expanding collaboration with logistics partners. The development of terminals, increased reliability of the network, to strengthening intermodal integration is part of the company's strategy to maintain sustainable performance.
"In the future, KAI is committed to continuing to strengthen freight transportation as one of the company's business pillars. With a data-based approach and market needs, we target logistics services that are increasingly relevant, efficient, and contribute positively to economic growth and smooth distribution of goods throughout Indonesia," said Anne.
