Schools in Serang Limit Mobile Phones, Students Asked to Focus on Learning

SERANG - A number of high schools in the city of Serang, Banten, have started to implement restrictions on the use of mobile phones during the Learning and Teaching Activities (KBM).

This policy was implemented following the issuance of the Circular of the Education and Culture Service of Banten Province.

Head of SMAN 2 Serang City Mala Leviana said that the tightening of rules for the use of gadgets has been effective today for all students and teachers in the school environment.

"Starting today, we are tightening restrictions on the use of mobile phones from the school entrance time of 07.15 WIB to returning home at 15.30 WIB," said Mala in Serang, Antara, Monday, February 2.

He explained that students were prohibited from operating mobile phones while at school, except for learning purposes that require access to digital information and with the permission of the subject teacher.

The policy refers to the Circular Letter of the Banten Education and Culture Office Number 100.3.4.1/0334-Dindikbud/2026 regarding Restrictions on the Use of Mobile Phones in the Education Unit Environment.

According to Mala, this rule aims to create a more conducive learning atmosphere, increase student focus, and minimize the negative impact of using social media.

"The impact is positive. Students become more disciplined and social interaction or family relations between school residents also become better," he said.

For students who violate it, the school applies sanctions in the form of a point system and disciplinary guidance. One form of guidance is the assignment of memorization of the Qur'an before the mobile phone is returned through a tiered licensing procedure involving parents and class teachers.

However, the school still allows the use of mobile phones after class ends to make it easier for students to communicate with parents or order online transportation.

"This rule applies in the future to strengthen the character education of students," said Mala.
