Bahar bin Smith was appointed as a suspect in the Banser persecution, the DPR asked the police to carry out the legal process without looking at the hair

Member of Commission III of the House of Representatives, Abdullah, responded to the designation of Bahar bin Smith as a suspect in the alleged case of persecution of members of the Tangerang City Ansor Serbaguna (Banser) by the Tangerang City Metro Police.

He emphasized that the applicable legal process must run without discrimination.

Abdullah emphasized that no party should act as a judge by themselves by committing violence or persecution.

"No party should be a judge in their own case, let alone persecute someone. Our country is a state of law, all issues must be resolved through the applicable legal mechanisms," said Abdullah, Monday, February 2.

If Bahar bin Smith and his followers are proven to have legally committed persecution, according to Abdullah, they must be held accountable for their actions. He also asked the police to investigate the case thoroughly and professionally.

"If it is proven that they have committed persecution, then Bahar Smith and anyone else involved must be dragged to the legal table and given a commensurate punishment according to their actions," he said.

The PKB legislator reminded that a religious figure has a great moral responsibility in the community. It should be, said Abdullah, a religious figure to be an example in maintaining morality, spreading peace, and avoiding acts of violence.

"A religious figure should maintain his morals, be a good example for the community, not actually commit or justify acts of persecution," he concluded.

It is known that the case of alleged abuse against the Banser member of Tangerang City is currently being handled by the Tangerang City Metro Police for further legal proceedings.

The determination of a suspect to Bahar bin Smith is stated in the Letter of Notification of the Development of Investigation Results (SP2HP) Number B/43/I/RES.1.24/2026/Reskrim on Friday, January 30, 2026.

Investigators have carried out a trial based on the results of the investigation which has been running since the police report was issued on September 22, 2025.
