A number of Russian companies are building hydroelectric plants in Afghanistan

JAKARTA - A number of Russian companies plan to build small-scale hydropower plants (PLTA) in Afghanistan.

The plan is being discussed between representatives of the company and local authorities in Afghanistan.

"Practical steps will be taken in this direction in the near future," Afghanistan's ambassador to Russia, Gul Hassan, was quoted as saying by Tass, Monday, February 2.

Representatives of Russian companies have held talks with relevant institutions in Kabul on the construction of small-scale hydroelectric power plants.

"Yes, Russian companies have shown interest in the power generation sector. Some of them have visited Afghanistan and held meetings and talks with relevant institutions and specialists," said Gul Hassan.

The Afghan diplomat in his first interview as the head of a diplomatic mission in Moscow hopes that a mutually beneficial agreement will be reached from the meetings that have taken place.

"In this case, it is hoped that practical steps will be taken in this direction in the near future," he said.
