Vicky Mono Back to Burgerkill, Deadsquad Announces Awan Graham as New Vocalist
JAKARTA - The Indonesian hard rock scene suddenly became noisy after the Jakarta-based death metal unit, Deadsquad, released a surprising statement on Sunday, February 1.
The band, which is currently on a tour in Taiwan, officially announced their blessing for the return of the vocalist, Vicky Mono, to the embrace of his old band, Burgerkill.
This step was taken by Deadsquad as a form of respect for Vicky's personal wishes as well as an answer to the deep longing of the Begundal - the term for loyal Burgerkill fans - who have long been waiting for this reunion.
In his statement, Deadsquad emphasized that this transition was not based on conflict, but rather a major decision for the Indonesian hard music ecosystem.
"We, Deadsquad, hereby set February 1, 2026 as a momentum in honoring Vicky Mono's personal request to return to Burgerkill," wrote Deadsquad.
"We approve of this step as part of something bigger than us, namely the fans of heavy music, especially the Begundal. Vicky Mono's return to Burgerkill is a moment that Begundal has long missed," he continued.
For Deadsquad, Vicky has provided significant color during his tenure, and the band ensures that the family relationship will remain intact even though his career path is now different.
However, the Dead Squad doesn't need to worry about the vacancy in the front line. Along with the announcement, Deadsquad officially introduced Awan Graham as the new vocalist.
Awan, who was previously known for his presence in the metal scene, was chosen to continue the baton and maintain the intensity of extreme music that is the DNA of Deadsquad.
"This is not a goodbye, but part of a journey. At the same time, we continue this journey with Awan Graham as the vocalist of Deadsquad, as a form of our commitment to stay on the extreme music path and continue to work here, forever," added the band.
This news was released in the midst of Deadsquad's busy schedule to conquer the Asian stage. Currently, Stevie Item et al are in Taiwan to greet the Indonesian Metalhead community in Taiwan in three major cities: Taichung, Taipei, and Kaohsiung.
This tour is also an event to prove that Deadsquad is still solid and has not lost its edge even though it has undergone personnel changes.
With the inclusion of Awan Graham, Deadsquad is ready to open a new chapter in their discography, while Vicky's return to Burgerkill will be the most emotional nostalgic chapter in the national metal music industry this year.
