DKI DLH Denies SPKU Around Rorotan RDF Plant Shut Down
JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) denied that the Air Quality Monitoring System (SPKU) around the RDF Plant Rorotan facility, Cilincing was turned off, but underwent field calibration to ensure that the air quality and noise data produced were accurate and precise.
"There is no blackout or termination of monitoring. What is done is the field calibration process so that the sensor reads the environmental conditions correctly and does not cause misinterpretation of the raw data," said Head of the Environment Service (DLH) of the DKI Jakarta Province, Asep Kuswanto in Jakarta, Sunday.
He said this to refute information stating that there was a stop to air quality monitoring equipment around the Rorotan RDF.
Asep said the calibration test was carried out to identify potential sensor bias due to the local environmental characteristics, including the influence of the coastal area.
In the process, the DLH took standardized ambient air samples, then tested them in an accredited laboratory.
The results of the laboratory are then compared with the data of the SPKU reading for system improvement before the data is fully displayed to the public.
"SPKU serves as an early warning system and a tool for reading the trend of changes in air quality over time, not to draw immediate conclusions," said Asep.
Asep said the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) is committed to continuing to monitor air quality on an ongoing basis, evaluating the operation of the Rorotan RDF Plant gradually, and providing information to the public openly and based on scientific data.
Since the end of December 2025, the DKI Provincial Government has installed eight SPKU units around the Rorotan RDF Plant which are equipped with ambient odor monitoring sensors with parameters including ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, methyl mercaptan, methyl sulfide, and styrene.
This system is the first in Indonesia that is specifically equipped with an ambient noise measuring sensor.
