Bandung Regent Immediately Relocates Families of Victims of Landslide in Pangalengan

Bandung - West Java Regent Dadang Supriatna has ensured that the local government will immediately relocate the families of victims of the landslide disaster in Mekarsari Village, Tribakti Mulya Village, Pangalengan, which killed two children on Sunday, February 1.

Bupati Dadang when visiting the landslide location in Bandung, Sunday, February 1, expressed his deep condolences for the landslide disaster that claimed two victims, a three-month-old and a five-year-old child.

"I feel very sad about this landslide disaster. The victims are two children, aged three months and five years. God willing, we will help provide land and houses so that they can be occupied in a decent and safe way," he said, quoted by Antara.

He explained that the landslide occurred around 14.00 WIB when heavy rain hit the area, resulting in the collapse of the kitchen wall of the victim's house and burying the two children along with soil and stone materials.

He added that the three-month-old baby died at the scene, while the five-year-old child was rushed to the hospital, but died on the way due to the severe injuries he suffered.

The Bandung Regency Government together with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), village officials, and related parties immediately carried out initial handling after the incident, including appealing to residents around the vulnerable location to evacuate temporarily to anticipate the potential for subsequent landslides.

"There are about six houses that we ask to be temporarily vacated. The local government will provide a three-month house contract assistance for affected residents," he said.

Dadang ensured that the local government would pay special attention to the families of the victims who were known to have no houses and were still in a contractual status.

He appealed to people living in disaster-prone areas to increase vigilance, especially during high rainfall intensity, and immediately report potential land movement to local authorities.
