Election Regulation Expected to Take the Form of a Political Law Package
JAKARTA - The executive director of the Development and Democracy Advocacy Institute (LAPD), Kaka Suminta, encourages that improvements to the regulation on the implementation of general elections (pemilu) can be realized in the form of a package of Political Law by ensuring the involvement of stakeholders.
"We encourage all stakeholders, including the DPR, government, and civil society, to unite in an effort to form a complete and effective Political Law package," he said, Sunday, February 1.
According to him, the package of Political Law which includes the Political Party Law, the Election Law, the Regional Election Law, the Election Organizer Law, and the MD3 Law, has become a necessity in the implementation of future elections. Because, without clear and integrated regulations, the electoral process risks becoming not transparent, not fair, and prone to conflict.
"This can cause dissatisfaction among the public, which in the end can trigger political instability in the country," added Kaka.
The former Secretary General of the Independent Election Monitoring Committee (KIPP) also urged the DPR and the government to open the widest possible role for all parties in discussing the Political Law package. The reason is that open dialogue and collaboration between all parties is very important to create regulations that support the implementation of fair and transparent elections.
Previously, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, revealed that his party would separate the discussion of the Election Bill from the Regional Head Election Bill. Because, the Election Bill is one of the national legislation priorities for 2026.
"The DPR and the government agree that the Regional Election Bill has not been included in the 2026 Priority Prolegnas. Currently, the focus of discussion is on the Election Bill," Dasco said in a closed meeting attended by the leadership of Commission II of the DPR and Mensesneg Prasetyo Hadi at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, some time ago.
