Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives condemns Israel's attack on Gaza during the ceasefire.
JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sukamta, condemned Israel's air raids in various areas in the Gaza Strip on Saturday (31/1) morning which resulted in 31 people being killed.
Six children were among those killed in the attack. The attack came a day before Israel was scheduled to reopen the Rafah crossing, which links the Gaza Strip with Egypt.
Sukamta in a statement in Jakarta, Sunday, considered Israel's attack targeting civilians to be outrageous, a human tragedy, a form of violation of international humanitarian law.
In addition, the Israeli attack also violated the ongoing ceasefire agreement, when all hostages were released and even after the last body of the hostage was handed over.
"Since the ceasefire was imposed on October 10, 2025, there have been repeated attacks on civilians. The Palestinian government's report in Gaza, at least 488 people were killed and 1,350 were injured.
"It is heartbreaking what is happening in Gaza Palestine, all humanitarian norms and legal norms continue to be violated, without any consequences. There is no investigation into organized crimes that continue to be committed by Israel," said Sukamta.
He hopes that the Indonesian Government will actively encourage international institutions to take concrete and measurable steps in responding to and stopping the violence and atrocities committed by Israel.
"The main issue at this time is the failure to consistently enforce legal norms. So far it is felt that there is selectivity, and when Israel commits various violations, there is no mechanism to stop it. If this continues to be allowed, international humanitarian law will lose its legitimacy in the eyes of the Palestinian people and in the eyes of the world," he said.
According to him, the Israeli attack that killed dozens of Gaza civilians was also an alarm for the new institution, the Board of Peace (BoP), in an effort to bring peace to the Palestinian region.
"This is clearly a test for the BoP and more specifically for Trump as an initiator. While international institutions have been seen as paralyzed in the face of Israeli crimes, the existence of the BoP is considered by some to be a breakthrough in ending violence in Palestine.
He said the most important step to be expected was certainly the cessation of all non-violent Israeli attacks against civilians and the immediate opening of humanitarian assistance to the maximum for Gaza residents.
"Every initiative or narrative of peace will lose its meaning if it is not able to prevent the bombing of refugees and children," said Sukamta.
