Minister of PPPA, Arifah Fauzi, Meets Two TPPO Victims in Medan
JAKARTA - Minister of Empowerment of Women and Child Protection (PPPA) Arifah Fauzi met two girls from East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), who were victims of human trafficking (TPPO) in Medan, North Sumatra.
"So actually he has been working as an ART in Kupang, then he received an offer from a friend to work in Medan," said PPPA Minister Arifah Fauzi at the Bahagia Center, Medan City, North Sumatra, Saturday (31/1).
Based on the victim's statement, he continued, the victim's colleague promised the victim could work as a domestic helper in Medan, so that the two of them decided to leave NTT for Medan.
The two had worked for a family in Medan for five months. However, during that time they did not receive wages.
"They also experienced violence, finally they fled and now they are protected at Sentra Bahagia," said Minister Arifatul Choiri Fauzi.
The Ministry of PPPA will try to make both of them have certain expertise so that in the future they can live independently.
"We will first ask if he is interested, maybe he is interested in sewing skills, or others. Later we will find the solution," said Arifah Fauzi.
In addition to meeting the two children of the TPPO victim, Minister Arifah Fauzi also met with several girls who were victims of sexual violence who lived in Sentra Bahagia.
On that occasion, the Ministry of PPPA handed over specific assistance to child victims.
Sentra Bahagia in Medan is a technical implementation unit of the Ministry of Social Affairs that serves as a safe house and social rehabilitation center for victims of violence, especially children.
This center is part of the network of protection for women and children in Indonesia, collaborating with relevant parties to ensure legal handling of cases of violence, medical rehabilitation, and psychology.
