Ahead of Chinese New Year, KKP Says 40 Units of Fish Processing Have Export Permits to China

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has recorded 40 additional Fish Processing Units (UPI) obtaining approval numbers for the export of fishery products to China from the China General Administration of Customs (GACC).

Head of the KKP Marine and Fishery Product Quality Control and Supervision Agency Ishartini in a press statement in Jakarta, Saturday, explained that Indonesia has a bilateral agreement on the equivalence of the product quality assurance system or mutual recognition arrangement (MRA).

This agreement became the basis for negotiations so that the Chinese authorities agreed to the proposed new approval number for UPI.

"This is a breath of fresh air for the Indonesian fishing business world and an opportunity to diversify export products, especially ahead of the 2026 Chinese New Year," said Ishartini, quoted from ANTARA, Saturday, January 31.

He explained that to obtain the approval number, the KKP Quality Agency together with GACC carried out a series of technical and administrative processes in accordance with the scope of the MRA.

The process includes reciprocal registration, joint pre-border inspection, joint corrective action consultation, and submission of documents through the GACC system with the KKP Quality Agency acting as the competent authority.

Ishartini added that currently there are 1,080 types of fishery commodities exported from Indonesia to China.

Throughout 2025, the export volume reached 491,528 tons with a value of 1.04 billion US dollars or around Rp. 17.46 trillion.

The ten main commodities include frozen squid, seaweed, frozen ribbon fish, frozen leather jacket fish, and frozen croaker fish.

Ishartini appealed to all business actors and stakeholders who have obtained export access to always maintain commitment and consistency in implementing standards of sanitation, hygiene, and food safety principles.
