AEML Says Ecosystem is the Key to the Development of Electric Vehicles in Indonesia
JAKARTA - The penetration of electric vehicles in Indonesia is getting better year by year, which of course is driven by several factors including government policies. Talking about electric vehicles is closely related to many aspects, not only technology but also energy resilience to the environment.
In addition, the increasing adoption of EVs is able to reduce the burden of fuel subsidies while improving air quality, especially in urban areas which have been a high-pollution point.
In this case, the government has prepared a regulatory basis through Presidential Regulation Number 79 of 2023. This rule is one of the main foundations for the development of the electric vehicle ecosystem, with the aim of gradually encouraging the adoption of EVs and paving the way for strengthening the domestic automotive industry.
According to the Secretary General of the Electric Mobility Ecosystem Alliance (AEML) Rian Ernest, the development of electric vehicles cannot be done separately, in the sense that the ecosystem approach is the key to ensuring that EV policies and implementation run sustainably.
"The more electric vehicles on the road, the impact is not only on the environment, but also on strengthening national energy resilience," he said, in a discussion held in Jakarta, Friday, January 30.
In addition, AEML also sees Presidential Decree 79/2023 as an important instrument to align the interests of the market and industry. The regulation is considered to provide certainty of policy direction while opening up space for cross-sector collaboration in the development of the national electric vehicle ecosystem, especially supported by various incentives and forms of government support.
As a result, in the period 2022-2025 the electric vehicle market in Indonesia showed significant growth, marked by an increase in EV sales, the entry of various international and domestic brands, and the development of manufacturing facilities in the country.
On the same occasion, Deputy for Basic Infrastructure, Ministry of Coordinating for Infrastructure and Regional Development, M Rachmat Kaimuddin said that Presidential Regulation Number 79 of 2023 (Perpres 79/2023) has a fairly positive impact on the automotive industry in the country.
"Since we released the end of 2023 until the end of 2025, the market has increased. From 17,000 to 103,000 units," said M Rachmat.
