Dear Class Of 2020 Graduation Celebration Will Show Obama, BTS, And Lady Gaga

JAKARTA - Dear Class of 2020, a celebration event announced by YouTube on Tuesday, May 5, to honor students and students who graduate in 2020 but do not have a celebration due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A number of headliners were confirmed to attend this event, namely former President of the United States (US) Barack Obama, BTS, Lady Gaga, and many more.

This event will take place next June 6 exclusively on YouTube. The guests will give speeches related to the students' graduation. Apart from the three, there is Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Malala Yousafzai, former Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates who will convey congratulations and messages to prospective alumni.

Like a graduation party, there will be performances from musicians for Dear Class of 2020 including Alicia Keys, Kelly Rowland, Chloe x Halle, Zendaya, The Try Guys, and others.

The Dear Class of 2020 event was initiated by YouTube as part of a celebration that has become an annual tradition. "Graduation is a tradition where students and families wait and with the situation in the world, YouTube provides inspiration in the form of a virtual opening," said Susanne Daniels, Global Head of YouTube Content, quoted by The Hollywood Reporter.

With the virtual graduation ceremony, students can still feel a memorable graduation celebration. The existence of favorite artists and guest stars is also strived to support the students to feel special and have the spirit to celebrate graduation.

This step was taken by YouTube after previously seeing Facebook doing the same thing on May 15. Appointing Oprah Winfrey as the certificate awarding speech reader, the event will be attended by Awkwafina, Jennifer Garner, and Lil Nas X who will give a few words.

Apart from Facebook and YouTube, this online graduation event is also conducted by Her Campus. This women's company at Spoon University will hold I'm Still Graduating by inviting Eva Longoria, Liam Payne, Jesse McCartney as part of the graduation ceremony.

To date, the US has more than 1 million cases of the corona virus with 164 thousand declared cured while 71,921 have died. The high number of cases is also a factor in why virtual graduation events like this are held.

It seems interesting if a similar event is held in Indonesia but of course it needs coordination from many parties so that the event continues to run smoothly. What do you think?
