U.S. Senate Reaches Funding Compromise Ahead of Potential Government Shutdown

WASHINGTON - The US Senate has agreed to push a package of measures to fund the federal government ahead of the deadline for the shutdown, citing sources from Democrats in the upper house of Congress.

Meanwhile, negotiations on reforms for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will continue, the report added, as reported by ANTARA from Sputnik, Friday, January 30.

According to the source, the agreement reached establishes that the bill funding the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will be separated from the overall package of six budget documents that includes the operations of other agencies, including the Pentagon and the State Department.

Funding for DHS is proposed to be extended at the current level for two weeks. Funding for the six bills will expire at 00:00 local time on Saturday.

The senators hope to quickly approve the agreed measures before the deadline, despite objections from at least one Republican senator, the report added.
