Often Ignored, the Impact of Drinking Less for the Body and the Importance of Safe Intake

JAKARTA - Safe and quality drinking water is a basic need for the human body. Not only serving as a thirst quencher, water plays an important role in maintaining fluid balance, helping vital organs work, and supporting the body's metabolism to remain optimal.

Unfortunately, not a few people who are not aware of the type of water they consume every day also determine the quality of hydration and long-term health.

According to Dr. Cynthia Natalia, Sp.PD, AIFO-K, internal disease specialist, adequate fluid intake plays a major role in maintaining the balance of metabolism, organ performance, and concentration.

"The habit of drinking less water in the long term can increase the risk of various diseases such as Kidney Stones because there is a buildup of minerals that are not well dissolved, and Chronic Concentration and Fatigue Disorders, especially in active workers and the elderly," said a specialist in internal diseases from Tzuchi Hospital, as in the press statement of Amidis to VOI.

In the initial stage when the body is deficient in fluids, the first hour or so the body is still able to make adjustments. However, over time, fluid levels begin to decrease.

Saliva production is reduced, the mouth feels dry, and the brain begins to signal thirst. This condition can affect focus and concentration, especially when doing physical activities or in an air-conditioned environment.

If the body does not get fluid intake for about three hours, signs of mild dehydration begin to appear. Some people can feel headaches, fatigue, to decreased ability to focus. In addition, the skin can feel drier and the color of urine becomes darker an early indication that the body is lacking fluid.

Dr. Cynthia also reminded that the habit of drinking less water in the long term can increase the risk of health disorders.

Among them are the formation of kidney stones due to the accumulation of poorly soluble minerals, as well as chronic concentration and fatigue disorders, especially in the elderly and individuals with high activity.

The Importance of Choosing Quality Drinking Water

Based on this explanation, maintaining hydration is ideally done by consuming drinking water regularly, at least every one to two hours. However, the frequency of drinking alone is not enough. The quality of the water consumed is also an important factor in supporting overall body health.

A study conducted by Bint-E-Zahra, a molecular biologist from the Institute of Molecular Biology & Biotechnology, Bahauddin Zakariya University, Pakistan, showed that the consumption of flavored and sugary drinks has the potential to increase the risk of metabolic syndrome.

In his research published in the National Journal of Health Sciences in 2019, it was stated that the consumption of pure drinking water can reduce the risk of kidney function decline by 11 percent compared to flavored drinks.

Responding to the need for quality drinking water, Astrid Adelaide Siregar, Head of Marketing Amidis, explained that Amidis is produced using multifiltration and distillation technology to produce truly pure water.

"We process drinking water through multifiltration and distillation technology with heating up to 110 degrees Celsius. The resulting water vapor is then condensed into pure drinking water without contaminants," explained Astrid.

This process becomes an additional layer of security to ensure that the water consumed is safe for the body, including kidney health.

"Our commitment is to ensure that Indonesian families have access to the best quality drinking water," said Susilo Gunadi, Commercial Director of PT Amidis Tirta Mulia.
