Fire Burns a Citizen Kiosk on the Jelarai Raya Line, the Trigger is Still Being Investigated
TANJUNG SELOR - The atmosphere in the Telur Pecah area, Sengkawit Street around Tugu Lemlai Suri, Tanjung Selor, Bulungan, North Kalimantan (Kaltara) suddenly gripped.
A major fire hit a row of kiosks owned by residents on Jalan Poros Jelera Raya and burned down almost all the buildings on the side of the road.
The incident occurred around 19.00 WITA, Friday, January 30. Residents who were around the location tried to manually extinguish the fire before the fire got bigger and was no longer under control.
The fire quickly spread from one building to another because the distance between the kiosks was very close.
Most of the buildings that were burned were known to be small business kiosks with semi-permanent construction. At the location there are various types of businesses, such as grocery stores, tailors, gallon water sellers, to retail gasoline traders.
The existence of fuel oil stored at a number of kiosks is suspected to have accelerated the spread of the fire. In a matter of minutes, the flames grew and made it difficult to save the goods belonging to the traders.
Bulungan Regency Fire Service officers came to the location with the assistance of TNI and Polri personnel to carry out the fire and secure the surrounding area. The extinguishing process lasted quite a while until the fire could be controlled.
The head of the Bulungan Police, Kombes Pol Rofikoh Yunianto, S.I.K., through the P.S. Kasubsi PIDM Sihumas Bulungan Police, Aipda Hadi Purnomo, said that police personnel along with firefighters were still at the scene.
"Currently, the personnel with the Fire Service are still at the location of the fire. Later, when there is progress, we will convey it," he said.
Until this news was released, officers were still conducting data collection at the scene. The exact cause of the fire has not been determined and is still under investigation by the authorities.
The police again reminded residents to be more vigilant, especially in storing flammable materials, to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
