Komdigi Appreciates YouTube, Asking Digital Platforms to Implement Age Verification
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Digital appreciates YouTube's move to provide a feature to make it easier for parents to monitor children on digital platforms.
The Minister of Communication and Information, Nezar Patria, asked all digital platforms operating in Indonesia to implement a system that can recognize the age of users as a form of platform responsibility in protecting children in the digital space.
According to the Deputy Minister of Communication and Information, users who are not of legal age must be restricted from accessing content that is not suitable for consumption.
"We need smart machines to identify the age of users. Platforms are responsible for implementing this kind of technology," Nezar said when meeting with YouTube representatives on Thursday, January 29.
Nezar hopes that the efforts that have been made by YouTube can be emulated by other platforms to ensure the safety of children in the digital space.
This is because it is in line with the regulation of Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 concerning the Governance of the Implementation of Electronic Systems in the Protection of Children (PP TUNAS) which requires platforms to be responsible for verifying age and limiting negative content.
Meanwhile, Global Head and Vice President of Government Affairs and Public Policy YouTube, Leslie Miller, said YouTube has provided several features to limit child accounts.
Leslie Miller hopes that this effort can make it easier to monitor children's activities in the digital space.
