DKI Provincial Government Adds Embung to Reduce Flood Discharge

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) has added the number of embungdi in the capital, one of which is in the Kebagusan area, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, to reduce flood discharge in the Joe connecting channel flow system (Mampang-Krukut River system).

The Embung, which is located on Jalan Baung, Kebagusan Village, Pasar Minggu District, or behind the Kebagusan City apartment, has a total area of about two hectares.

"The category, this reservoir is not too big, about 2 hectares, then a depth of 3-4 meters. The goal is to reduce flood discharge in the Joe connecting channel flow system (Mampang-Krukut River system)," said Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karnosaat while reviewing the construction of EmbungKebagusan in Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, Friday, January 30 reported by ANTARA.

He said that the Embung Kebagusan could reduce the flood discharge by about 2.3 percent. If the water discharge in the Joe connecting channel flow system is originally 30.07 cubic meters per second, then the embankment can reduce the water discharge to 29.38 cubic meters per second.

"It's small, but it can reduce, it's a wonderful thing," said Rano.

On the same occasion, the Head of the DKI Jakarta Water Resources Office, Ika Agustin Ningrum, said that Kebagusan Embung was one of seven embung that were in the construction phase.

"Currently, there are approximately 50 functioning ponds and reservoirs in Jakarta, and there are approximately seven locations under construction, one of which is in this location," said Ika.

The development of the Kebagusan Embankment, he said, can handle waterlogging or flooding in the Pegangsaan Dua area which is a location for flooding due to the overflow of the Joe connecting channel, and contributes to flooding in the Kebagusan Village.

In addition, he revealed that the pond is also an infrastructure for flood control in the Pasar Minggu area and the South Jakarta area.

Furthermore, Ika targets the completion of the Kebagusan Embung construction by the end of 2026.
