American Airlines to Soon Resume U.S.-Venezuela Flights After Maduro's Ouster
JAKARTA - The US-based American Airlines plans to operate the US-Venezuela flight route again. A number of details related to the plan are being worked out with the US Government.
"We have a history of more than 30 years of connecting Venezuelans with the US, and we are ready to renew that extraordinary relationship," American Airlines Commercial Officer Nat Pieper said in a statement quoted by AFP, Friday, January 30.
This intention came after US President Donald Trump ordered Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez, Nicolas Maduro's successor, to reopen the Venezuelan airspace for commercial airline flights from the US.
"By resuming service to Venezuela, American will offer customers the opportunity to reunite with family and create new business and trade with the United States," the statement continued.
American Airlines became the last US airline to have a flight route to Venezuela after suspending its flights to Miami and the capital, Caracas, and the oil center Maracaibo in 2019.
The airline later said on Thursday that it intended to resume its direct US-Venezuela flight route.
American Airlines will share additional details about the return of service in the coming months as it works with federal authorities on the necessary safety assessments and authorizations.
