Trump Orders Venezuela to Open Up More Airspace for Commercial Flights

JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump ordered Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez to reopen the airspace for commercial airline flights from the US.

"Americans will soon be able to go to Venezuela, and they will be safe there," Trump, a Republican, said on Thursday local time, quoted by AFP.

Trump said the request had been communicated through US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy. He has also spoken to US military leaders to take steps to open the Venezuelan airspace.

The Venezuelan government, when asked for a response, has not commented.

Trump's efforts are contradictory to the US State Department, which is still warning its citizens not to travel to Venezuela.
