MG Goda Pasar with a Coupe-Designed Electric Sedan Leak

MG has started to give signals about its latest pure electric sedan through a series of official teaser images. This is an early signal of the seriousness of the British manufacturer in expanding its electric passenger car portfolio, as well as strengthening its presence in the battery-based sedan segment.

Launching an IT-home report, the teaser shows a sedan with a coupe-style silhouette, equipped with a lidar sensor mounted on the roof and a semi-hidden door handle. However, MG is still keeping the model's name, technical specifications, mileage, launch schedule, and price tag a secret.

The company has also not confirmed whether this vehicle will enter mass production or just a concept. In terms of appearance, this new electric sedan at first glance resembles the MG7, a mid-sized sedan model with a gasoline engine that is currently marketed by MG.

Meanwhile, launching Carnewschina, Friday, January 30, it was mentioned that its profile is similar to the SAIC Z7, which is another sedan under the umbrella of the same SAIC group, which both carry a coupe-style body and a lidar module on the roof. However, until now, SAIC MG has not given official confirmation regarding the design relationship or the use of the same platform among the models.

For comparison, the MG7 in the Chinese market is sold at an official price ranging from 137,900 to 178,900 yuan or Rp332 million to Rp431 million. Meanwhile, the provisional subsidy price is in the range of 116,900 to 154,900 yuan or starting at Rp282 million.

It should be noted, this figure only applies to the MG7 gasoline engine and does not reflect the price of this latest electric sedan which is still mysterious. The MG7 itself is available in two engine options.

The 1.5T variant produces 188 hp and 300 Nm of torque, combined with a seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. Meanwhile, the 2.0T version is capable of spitting out up to 261 hp (192 kW) with 405 Nm of torque, which is channeled through a nine-speed automatic transmission.

These specifications are only a reference for existing models and are not necessarily applied to the new electric sedan. In addition to the visual teaser, MG has not revealed other details such as the vehicle platform, battery configuration, electric motor power, and driver assistance system features.

The presence of lidar indicates the integration of advanced ADAS technology, but its functional capabilities have not yet been specified. For now, the teaser is the first public introduction of MG's latest pure electric sedan.
