Spotify Launches Group Chat Rooms to Exchange Messages with Many Users

JAKARTA - Spotify has added a new chat feature for its users. After launching the message sharing feature last August, Spotify now presents a chat feature in the form of a group.

With this chat room, users can now talk about interesting content on Spotify to share podcasts, lists, and favorite audiobooks with ten people at once. Basically, this feature is designed to share content personally.

Users can start a group if they have a collaborative playlist or have joined the Jam and Blend features with other users. Spotify said that this group chat room comes after the message feature received enthusiasm from users.

"You can now share to groups via Spotify Messages," Spotify said in its official blog, quoted on Friday, January 29. "User controls and security functions on 1:1 messages are also available for group chats."

The presence of this group chat room is also part of Spotify's ambition to make its platform a social media. Over the past few years, Spotify has continued to add interactive features such as comment columns in podcasts and an inter-user follower system.

Even though it presents group chats, Spotify still supports users to share content to other social media platforms outside the application. This internal messaging feature is just an additional tool to strengthen the relationship between listeners on Spotify.

All messages will be encrypted, both when being sent and when stored on the company's servers. However, it should be noted that this feature does not yet use an end-to-end encryption system as is often found in native messaging apps.
