The Ministry of Industry said that the alcohol beverage industry plays a role in the economy.

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) revealed that the alcohol beverage industry actually plays a role in Indonesia's economy.

"The alcoholic beverage industry also plays a role in the national economy, especially in terms of state revenue through tax contributions and foreign exchange from exports," said Acting Director General of Agro Industry, Ministry of Industry, Putu Juli Ardika, as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, January 29.

Putu Juli said that domestic alcoholic beverages contributed to tax revenue of IDR 8.92 trillion throughout 2025.

Plus Rp361 billion for imported alcoholic beverages, so that the total revenue reached Rp9.28 trillion.

"The 2025 tax amount for domestic production has even increased by 0.73 percent compared to 2024," said the Director General of Agro Industry.

If viewed from the export side, the alcoholic beverage commodity also contributed, where in January-November 2025 it was recorded at US $ 15.75 million in export value.

"The largest export during the period was for alcoholic beverages of type C, one of which was Bali liquor with destination countries namely Thailand, China, the Netherlands, and the United Arab Emirates," said Putu Juli.

The Ministry of Industry emphasized that this figure shows that the demand for alcoholic beverages produced in Indonesia continues to grow.

This is also a sign that the business climate of the industry in Indonesia supports making the production base of alcoholic beverages export-oriented.

Putu Juli sees the development of the alcoholic beverage industry inseparable from the local wisdom of each region in Indonesia.

In addition to the famous Bali liquor from the Island of the Gods, North Sumatra also has tuak, Nias has tuo nifaro, East Java has legen, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) has sopi, and Papua has swansrai.

The Ministry of Industry sees the characteristics of each region as reflecting local wisdom that is inseparable from customary ceremonies, religious rituals, and symbols of togetherness.

"The diversity of traditional alcoholic beverages in Indonesia reflects the richness of culture and invaluable local heritage, and is an advantage that no other country has," said Putu Juli.

What is more advantageous, the alcoholic beverage industry in Indonesia is supported by beautiful natural wealth so that it is able to attract tourists to come and enjoy.

As an example, Bali, where 45 percent of the total foreign tourists entering Indonesia come here.

The government sees this as a potential for producers of alcoholic beverages to further introduce their products.

"This is for the needs of the tourism sector and as one of the efforts to support the vision and mission of exporting alcoholic beverages abroad, as well as being one of the sources of economic growth for the Province of Bali," said Putu Juli.

For information, the Kemenperin record states that the alcoholic beverage industry is part of the food and beverage industry whose production is controlled and supervised in accordance with Presidential Regulation Number 74 of 2013 and is a closed business sector in accordance with Presidential Regulation Number 49 of 2019.

Through the Minister of Industry Regulation Number 17 of 2019, the Ministry of Industry has a role in controlling and supervising the production and quality of alcoholic beverages so that the alcoholic beverage products produced and circulated in the community have quality standards and are safe to consume.
