Bapanas ensures that food stocks are safe ahead of Ramadan-Idulfitri

JAKARTA - The government through the National Food Agency (Bapanas) ensures the availability of strategic national staple foods in a safe condition ahead of Ramadan until Eid al-Fitr 2026.

This certainty was conveyed in conjunction with the readiness of national stocks and the strengthening of various food intervention programs to maintain the stability of supply and prices.

Director of Food Supply and Price Stabilization (SPHP) Bapanas, Maino Dwi Hartono, said Bapanas continued to carry out the direction of the Head of Bapanas Andi Amran Sulaiman to ensure food sufficiency for the community, especially during the National Religious Great Day (HBKN).

"As directed by the Head of Bapanas, Mr. Andi Amran Sulaiman, that Bapanas continues to ensure availability for the public, especially ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr in the near future," he said in an official statement, Thursday, January 29.

Based on the National Food Balance Projection as of January 6, 2026, a number of major food commodities such as rice, broiler chicken meat, broiler chicken eggs, consumer sugar, as well as beef and buffalo meat are ensured to be sufficient for the next three months, or until March 2026.

For rice commodities, the total national availability for the period January-March is projected to reach 22.2 million tons.

The figure comes from the initial stock of 12.4 million tons and additional production of around 9.8 million tons.

Meanwhile, the national consumption needs during the period are estimated at 7.7 million tons, so there is still a surplus of up to 14.5 million tons at the end of March.

The availability of pure chicken meat is also considered safe. The total supply for three months is estimated at 1.6 million tons, consisting of the initial stock of 252,300 tons and January-March production of around 1.4 million tons.

With consumption demand in the range of 1.01 million tons, this commodity is projected to experience a surplus.

Meanwhile, purebred chicken eggs are expected to be available up to 1.9 million tons until March. This amount comes from the initial stock of 92,800 tons and production of 1.8 million tons.

With a national consumption of 1.67 million tons in January-March, the egg surplus is estimated at 305,800 tons.

For consumption sugar, the availability until March is projected to reach 1.46 million tons, which comes from the initial stock of 1.44 million tons and additional production of 26,700 tons.

This figure is considered sufficient to meet the national consumption needs of 712,500 tons, with a surplus at the end of March of around 751,500 tons.

The availability of beef and buffalo meat is also ensured to be safe. The total supply from January to March is estimated at 185,400 tons, which comes from the initial stock of 41,600 tons, the production and slaughter of 125,200 tons of cattle/buffalo, and the import of 18,500 tons of frozen meat. Meanwhile, the national consumption needs are at 179,000 tons.

"In addition, Bapanas together with food stakeholders will also intensify various food intervention programs that can directly touch the community. For example, cheap markets such as the Cheap Food Movement (GPM) and the distribution of SPHP rice," added Maino.

Until the third week of January 2026, the Cheap Food Movement program has been realized 264 times in 106 districts/cities. This achievement increased by 52.6 percent compared to January last year which was recorded 173 times. Bapanas ensures that the implementation of GPM will continue to be improved until Eid al-Fitr.

Meanwhile, the distribution of the SPHP rice program is still being carried out by Perum Bulog as an extension of the 2025 program. Throughout January 2026, the realization of the sale of SPHP rice has reached around 63,000 tons.

The government also emphasized its commitment to maintaining the stability of strategic staple food prices during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. Supervision will be strengthened through the Sapu Bersih Task Force (Satgas Saber) for Violations of Food Prices, Safety, and Quality in 2026, from upstream to downstream.

On the other hand, Director General of Domestic Trade of the Ministry of Trade Iqbal Shoffan Shofwan emphasized the importance of accelerating food distribution as a step to anticipate weather factors.

"This time we want to focus on the distribution channel. Therefore, regarding the availability of all basic necessities, there is no problem. What needs to be a concern is the weather factor," said Iqbal.

He added that the government had agreed with distributors, including food SOEs such as Bulog and ID FOOD, to accelerate the distribution of basic necessities to the regions.

"So when it enters the rainy season in February and March, the goods have arrived at the place," said Iqbal.

Previously, the Head of Bapanas Andi Amran Sulaiman also emphasized that there should be no food business actors who set prices unreasonably.

He asked all parties to comply with the provisions of the Highest Retail Price (HET), the Purchase Reference Price (HAP) at the producer level, and the Sales Reference Price at the consumer level.
